Govt rejects USCIRF report calling for ban on RAW, RSS

New Delhi: The government has “unequivocally” rejected the characterization of India as biased and biased by the International Center for Religious Freedom’s (USCIRF) report alleging deterioration of religious freedom in India and sought its designation as a country of special concern. The report also called for sanctions on the Research and Analysis Wing and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for their “responsibility and tolerance of serious violations of religious freedom by freezing the assets of those individuals or organizations and/or barring their entry into the United States”. The government, in its response, said that instead of continuing with electoral criticism of India, USCIRF would do well to reflect on incidents of vandalism and attacks on Hindu temples in the United States, selectively targeting India, and growing intolerance and intimidation of the Indian diaspora in the United States, which deserve serious attention.

.

USCIRF presents distorted and selective picture of India: MEAFor several years now, USCIRF has persisted in presenting a distorted and selective picture of India, relying on dubious sources and ideological narratives rather than objective facts. Such repeated misrepresentations only undermine the credibility of the commission,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. The report states that in 2025, the state of religious freedom in India continues to deteriorate as the government introduces and enforces new laws targeting religious minorities and their places of worship. USCIRF is an independent, bipartisan US federal government agency. It makes policy recommendations to the US President, Secretary of State, and Congress and monitors the implementation of these recommendations.
