Student from Ludhiana dies fighting Russia’s war | India News
LUDHIANA: They sent the cheerful and cheerful young man abroad in hopes of a better life. They brought him back in a casket, wearing an alien uniform and with no answers as to how or why he died. Samarjit Singh of Ludhiana, who traveled to Russia in 2025 for higher education and a better job, was killed in the Ukraine war while fighting for Russia. A few months after Samarjit moved to Russia, he lost contact with his family. He lost contact in September, prompting his relatives to plead for help with Indian government agencies and the Ministry of External Affairs for months. The family’s worst fears were confirmed on Wednesday when Russian officials informed them that Samarjit had died and that his remains had been sent to Delhi. “We tried everything but nobody supported us when we needed it most,” said his father Charanjit Singh. “Now we have his uniform, a death certificate and documents in Russian that we can’t read.”
