SC dismisses PETA plea on bull run in Karnataka

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea filed by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) against the Karnataka High Court’s order that said Kambala and bull run in Karnataka cannot be restricted to the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. The appellant sought to challenge this.A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta refused to interfere with the High Court order and questioned why the bull run should be restricted to certain areas. “They want to showcase the culture in different parts of the state; what’s wrong? Let people from other parts of the state also get to know the culture. Why should it be limited to only one particular area?” It said.It was claimed that the other places had no traditional or cultural connection with the game and that the events were organized only for commercial reasons, but the plea was rejected.
