NH users who fail to pay toll will get 3 days to make payment

New Delhi: Highway users who fail to pay toll charges on NH due to defects or blacklisting FASTagInsufficient balance or absence of tag, will have three days to make payment after receiving e-notice. If payment is not made within this period, double amount of toll will be charged and all vehicle (registration certificate) related services, such as change of ownership, transfer and renewal will be suspended.The details of the e-notice procedure for non-payment of toll charges will be notified in the next few days, a senior Road Transport Ministry official said.The procedure for payment of pending toll charges and the procedure for challenging the same will be mentioned in the notification. “This is very important as we start multi-lane free flow (MLFF), or barrier-free toll collection, on the NH stretch. The first MLFF tolling is set to roll out at Choriasi in Gujarat,” an official said.So far, NHAI’s electronic tolling entity IHMCL has bid MLFF for 16 toll plazas. These include Gharunda in Haryana, Mundka in Delhi and Manoharpura, Shahjahanpur and Daulatpura in Rajasthan where the new system will be launched soon. TOI has learned that the government will now bid the MLFF projects in bundles for expedited implementation“The provision of e-notice is the key to the success of MLFF as in this tolling system, vehicles will pass smoothly and not be stopped. The e-notice will mention double charges for failure to pay toll, but if vehicle owners pay within three days, there will be 50% discount, which means correct toll will be paid,” said an official.Earlier, the ministry had amended the NH fee rules to specify that failure to pay unpaid toll dues would not result in ‘NOC’ for transfer of ownership or transfer of vehicle from one state to another.

Women workers at toll plaza

New Delhi: NHAI has deployed 5,100 women workers on day shift at over 1,140 toll plazas. It said the exclusive deployment of female staff in frontline operational roles will improve user experience by creating an efficient and user-friendly environment for commuters, as well as “reducing the likelihood of disputes at NH Fee Plaza toll booths”. The decision was taken after discussions with stakeholders including fee plaza operators and industry associations.
