Maoist commander killed by leader for allegedly plotting surrender in Odisha

New Delhi: A Maoist commander, who had a bounty of Rs 22 lakh on his head, was allegedly killed by his leader for his willingness to surrender to the Odisha police, a senior officer said.Anvesh alias Renu, a native of Sukma in neighboring Chhattisgarh, was allegedly killed by notorious Naxalite leader Sukru on January 29.Police said Anvesh was a divisional committee member (DVCM) and military platoon commander of the KKBN (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) division.The Kandhamal district police on Wednesday recovered his decomposed body from the Pakri Reserve Forest area under Daringbadi police station limits. “It has been confirmed that Anvesh was killed by Sukru and his accomplices while the former was preparing to surrender to the Odisha police along with some Maoist cadres,” Kandhamal SP Harish BC told PTI.The SP said the body was exhumed following strict legal protocol in the presence of the Executive Magistrate.“Antesh’s move to surrender was opposed by the leadership. The killing is believed to have been carried out with the help of SZCM (State Zonal Committee Member) Sukru, DVCM Sila and ACM (Area Committee Member) Jagesh,” he said.Jagesh was neutralized in an exchange of fire with security forces on February 22 in the Nandabali Reserve Forest area of ​​Kandhamal district.Top officials involved in the anti-Naxalite operation in Odisha said the incident exposed internal conflicts among Maoist groups over surrendering to the police.
