SRINAGAR: The Ladakh administration has announced plans to introduce high-end Changthang pashmina products to the global luxury market and has adopted a holistic approach to enable local processing of the valuable fiber to boost income for local stakeholders.Speaking on “Changthang Fiber to Global Luxury Standards” at the two-day conclave that began on Tuesday, Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders — pastoralists, artisans, designers, cooperatives, policymakers and industry.“Ladakh produces 40-50 tonnes of pashmina fiber annually, but most of it goes outside UT for processing,” Kundra said.During the inauguration ceremony, LG Cavinder Gupta laid out the vision of the administration to transform its iconic pashmina — sourced from goats in tough, high-altitude Changthang — into a globally recognized luxury brand.
