BRO has cleared the snow, NH-701A has been opened ahead of time

JAMMU: The Border Road Organization has completed snow clearance on National Highway 701A (Old Mughal Road) and opened two stretches of it ahead of schedule on Friday. These roads usually open around March-end.BRO teams cleaned the stretch from Bufliaz (Poonch) to Peer Ki Gali (Poonch) under Project Communication and from Shopian to Peer Ki Gali under Project Beacon. “During the opening of the road, MORTH Director General VK Rajawat, along with CE Project Communications and Beacon, was present at Pier Ki Gali,” Defense PRO Lt Col Sunil Bartwal said on Friday.“There is still snow accumulation on the adjacent hillsides in some vulnerable areas. Due to the prevailing weather conditions, the possibility of snowfall cannot be ruled out,” Lt Col Bartwal said. He urged commuters to follow the traffic advisory issued by the Poonch and Shopian district administrations.A government spokesman advised travelers to exercise extreme caution during extended travel. “Movement may be restricted depending on weather conditions and authorities’ safety assessment,” the spokesperson said.“DG MoRTH appreciated all ranks involved in snow clearing operations in extremely harsh weather conditions. He said that route recess and planning for widening of NH-701A is underway,” Col Bartwal said. “During the visit, DF MoRTH reviewed the progress of work on NH-144A in all packages, and gave instructions to expedite it,” he added.
