Kerala Elections: Don't contest upcoming elections, says MLA K Babu

Kochi: Veteran Congress leader and Tripunithura MLA K Babu on Thursday announced his decision to withdraw from electoral politics, confirming that he will not contest the upcoming assembly polls.Speaking to the media at the DCC office in the presence of party district president Mohammed Shias and former minister Dominic Presentation, the six-term MLA said that while he vacates his seat, the Tripunithura constituency remains a UDF stronghold and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to retain it with a new candidate. However, he stopped short of naming anyone as his ‘successor’.

“The people of Tripunithura and Congress party Brought me from an ordinary person to where I am today. I am eternally grateful for the immense support I have received from all sections of the society,” commented Babu, a prominent ‘A’ group leader.inheritance casteWhile Babu has refused to officially name a successor, several high-profile names are doing the rounds for the Tripunithura seat in the upcoming elections. Popular actor and comedian Ramesh PisharodiKnown for his vocal support of the Congress, a strong contender. Babu described him as a courageous artiste who has consistently stood by the party’s platform. Besides, Deputy Mayor Deepak Joy and DCC General Secretary Raju P Nair are also rumored to be candidates.However, KPCC general secretary M Liju Babu is preferred, sources said.Babu, a former excise minister, is facing an ED probe into disproportionate assets, which recently froze assets worth Rs 25.82 lakh.
