Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband and businessman Raj Kundra has got judicial bail in the Bitcoin scam case. According to news agency ANI, the Special PMLA Court of Mumbai granted bail to Kundra in the money laundering case related to the alleged crypto ponzi scam of Rs 150 crore. The case was initiated on the basis of the charge sheet filed by the ED (Enforcement Directorate) last year, which stated that Raj Kundra had 285 Bitcoins, whose value today was said to be around Rs 150.47 crore. This Bitcoin was allegedly received from the scam mastermind Amit Bhardwaj. The ED argues that this crypto asset is the proceeds of crime, which Kundra had received for a project in Ukraine in the name of Bitcoin mining, but that project never started. Despite this, Raj Kundra, one of the accused, kept these bitcoins with him and used them. The ED chargesheet also alleged that Kundra tried to portray himself as a mere intermediary in the Bitcoin transactions but could not produce any concrete documents to support him. According to the chargesheet, an agreement called a term sheet was actually signed between him and Amit Bhardwaj, which proves that he was not the middleman but the beneficiary. During bail, the court said that Kundra has cooperated with the investigating agency and since he was not arrested, there is no need to keep him in custody now. However, the court has also imposed some conditions, which include that he will have to appear in the court for the next hearing. While leaving the court premises, Raj Kundra was also seen smiling in front of the media cameras, which is going viral on social media and remains a topic of discussion. The case will now be drafted for further hearing, where further legal action and evidence will be reviewed.
