MUMBAI: The battle for limited opposition seats in Maharashtra intensified on Thursday as the Sena UBT Aditya Thackeray In the upcoming Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections, Maha Vikas has practically staked his party’s claim for Aghadi’s sole winnable seat.Pointing to the current strength of the Assembly, Aditya suggested that Arithmetic favors his party over its MVA allies Congress and NCP (SP). In the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, the Sena UBT has 20 MLAs, followed by the Congress (16) and the NCP (SP) (10).“If you look at the figures, the (RS vote) seat belongs to the Sena UBT, and MVA will definitely have discussions in that direction,” Aditya said.The EC will formally announce the elections for the seven Rajya Sabha seats, scheduled for March 16, on February 26. Among the prominent members whose term is about to expire is NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar. According to Sena UBT’s Sanjay Raut, Pawar has already indicated his intention to seek re-election.RS members are elected by MLAs, and given the Mahayuti’s huge strength, could win six of Maharashtra’s seven seats in the next election.
