A murder incident that shocks humanity has come to light from Surat in Gujarat. A 60-year-old man, who was collecting garbage in Jahangirpura area, was so brutally attacked by a man with a wooden stick that he died. The entire incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed nearby, on the basis of which the police has arrested the accused.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as 60-year-old Babubhai Sawant. The incident took place between 3:22 am and 3:26 am on June 20 in front of ‘Mahajan Omelette’ shop located on Olpad-Jahangirpura Road.
CCTV footage shows that the accused hit the elderly man 13 times with a wooden stick on his head, hands and back in just 30 seconds. Even after being seriously injured, when the elderly man fell on the ground, the accused did not stop and continued attacking.
Passerby saw bloodied person in the morning, died in hospital
Several hours after the incident, at around 8:01 in the morning, a passerby saw the elderly man lying on the roadside in a pool of blood. He immediately informed 108 ambulance service.
The emergency medical team reached the spot and gave first aid to Babubhai. Surat Taken to New Civil Hospital. Doctors admitted him to the hospital and started treatment.
However, he died during treatment the same evening due to serious head injuries. His address in the hospital records was ISKCON Prime, Near Gold Stone, Katargam.
Murder case registered after postmortem report
Initially, Jahangirpura police had registered a case of accidental death and started investigation. But the postmortem report revealed that death was caused by a fatal blow to the head with a heavy object.
After this, the police registered a case of murder under section 103(1) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and intensified the investigation. Since there was no identity of the accused, it was a completely blind murder case for the police.
During the investigation, the police examined the footage of more than 100 CCTV cameras in and around the incident site. Also, with the help of technical analysis and human intelligence, suspects were searched in many areas.

Murder over money dispute, accused arrested
On the basis of an important CCTV footage found during the investigation, the police was successful in reaching the accused. The arrested accused has been identified as 55-year-old Kishorebhai Motirambhai Patel. He used to work on the footpath of Jahangirpura area collecting plastic bottles and junk. He is originally a resident of Bhandut village of Olpad taluka.
Police investigation revealed that both the accused and the deceased used to work as scrap collectors. There was a dispute going on between the two regarding money transactions. Due to this rivalry, the accused attacked Babubhai with a wooden stick and killed him.
In this case, ACP Milan Modi of Surat Police said that earlier accidental death was registered on the basis of MLC received from the hospital. A case of murder was registered after the postmortem report confirmed serious blow to the head with a foreign object. He said that various teams of Jahangirpura police arrested the accused within a few hours on the basis of human intelligence and technical surveillance. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused committed this crime due to a money dispute.
