15 people died in a fire in a three-storey building in Aliganj area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, on Monday afternoon. This building became a ‘death trap’ because it had only one way in and out. That single passageway was clogged with air-conditioning panels, tangled wires and other equipment, leaving little room for those trapped inside to escape if the fire spread.

According to the new update in the case, 18 officers and engineers have been found guilty in the LDA investigation in the fire incident. LDA Vice President has sent the report to the government recommending action against the guilty officers.

A total of 18 engineers and related officers, including five zonal officers, are said to be among the culprits. Before this, LDA has suspended a junior engineer and an assistant engineer.

The building was being misused!

Investigation has revealed that the map of the building was approved for residential use. Contrary to the approved map, the building was being used for commercial activities.

Investigation has also revealed that the demolition order issued against illegal construction in 2016 was later cancelled. According to the report, the then prescribed authority Durgesh Srivastava had canceled the demolition order.

There was no proper arrangement to vent out smoke in the building where the accident occurred. After the fire, the entire building and rooms were filled with smoke, due to which most of the people died due to suffocation.
