Allahabad High Court has adopted a strict stance in the matter of issuing arms licenses to people with criminal background in Uttar Pradesh. The court has questioned the state government and the police department as to on what grounds arms licenses were given to musclemen and powerful leaders involved in serious criminal cases. The court has summoned the complete records of 19 famous names in this case and has also sought information as to the circumstances under which licenses were issued to them, how many cases are registered against them and what type of government security was provided to them.
