The 20th day of the fast of famous education reformer and environmental scientist Sonam Wangchuk, who stood at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against alleged rigging and irregularities in the NEET examination, has completed.
Amidst continuously declining health Sonam Wangchuk Released a very emotional and sharp video message on Friday night. He told that due to the fast, about 20 percent of his body has been lost, but his courage and mental strength are still not shaken.
Asking a direct question to the people of the country, he said that if governments can fall on onion prices in this country, then why can’t political accountability be fixed for the future and education of crores of children of the country?
‘Fats and muscles are gone’
While sharing her health status in a video message, Sonam Wangchuk said, “Yes, I am still alive. Almost 20% of my body is gone. After the body fat, the muscles have also gone. After this the internal organs will go and finally the brain… but that situation has not come yet. Today is the end of the 20th day and I can prove that my brain is still working perfectly fine.”
Onion movement cited, demand for resignation of Education Minister
When the agitators asked him whether this movement would lead to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan or would any accountability be fixed? So Wangchuk reminded history and said, “I ask you, do the people of India love the lives and education of their children more or onions? In India, governments have fallen thrice due to the power of public movements. In 1980, the central government fell, while in 1998, the governments of Delhi and Rajasthan fell. That movement was only over the price of onion. Here we are talking about the lives of children, this year more than 20 students have committed suicide due to NEET irregularities. Will the Education Minister not resign on this also?
Big appeal for ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on 20th July
Wangchuk, who is on fast since June 28 under the banner of ‘Collective Justice Programme’ (CJP), appealed to the countrymen to gather in record numbers in the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march to be held on July 20. He said, “March with me towards the Parliament on July 20. Our real strength is your numbers. Otherwise who am I? I am a lonely, hungry and helpless person. You people are the force that has toppled governments for onions, we are only demanding accountability for the students.”
