BJP’s ‘triple engine’ government is running in Delhi politics. There are Municipal Corporation elections in Delhi next year, before that BJP is busy in strengthening the equation. 14 months ago, 16 councilors separated from the Aam Aadmi Party and formed a separate party named Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP), which is now going to merge with BJP.

IVP will merge with BJP in the state office in the presence of BJP state president Harsh Malhotra and CM Rekha Gupta. After this, 16 councilors of IVP will completely join BJP, after which the candidates for Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Ward Committees will also be announced.

After getting the command of Delhi BJP in the hands of Harsh Malhotra, it will become clear today who will be the candidates for Chairman and Deputy Chairman of 12 Ward Committees of MCD. Today is the last day for nomination. In such a situation, it is believed that some councilors coming from IVP can be given a chance in the ward committees of MCD?

IVP formed 14 months ago
Delhi Assembly elections were held in February 2025, in which the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a crushing defeat. Three months after Kejriwal was out of power, the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a major blow when 16 councilors broke ties with the Aam Aadmi Party and formed their own party. Due to this, the elections of MCD ward committees and standing committee members were affected and after losing the post of mayor, the Aam Aadmi Party also lost its standing committee claim.

IVP councilors indirectly supported BJP in Delhi Municipal Corporation. However, differences with BJP have also emerged on many issues. Recently, during the discussion on cleaning of drains in the MCD meeting, IVP councilors had walked out of the House when they were not given a chance to speak, but now in view of the Standing Committee elections, the script of IVP’s merger with BJP has been written.

BJP will give chance to IVP councilor
The IVP, formed 14 months ago, is going to be merged with the BJP before the nomination for the MCD Standing Committee elections. In the presence of Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and State BJP President Harsh Malhotra, 16 councilors of IVP will join BJP. In such a situation, BJP can give him a chance in the party organization and MCD ward committees.

It is believed that BJP can give him a chance for zone and standing committee member. Apart from this, some councilors may get a chance to contest for the post of President and Vice President in the MCD zone, which may further increase the influence of IVP chief Mukesh Goyal. It is believed that Mukesh Goyal can be given an important post.

If sources are to be believed, IVP chief Mukesh Goyal can be made the chairman of the ad-hoc or special committee of MCD, while party co-chief Hemchandra Goyal can be sent by BJP from the Central Zone of MCD as a member of the standing committee. Also, BJP can make nominated councilor Manoj Jain the candidate for the post of Deputy Chairman.

Strategy for 2027 elections
Delhi Municipal Corporation elections are to be held next year in 2027. While BJP has already started fixing its political equations, IVP councilors were worried about their future. It was difficult for him to win on the election symbol of IVP, due to which he wanted to strengthen his position by merging with BJP. The claim of getting tickets in the upcoming elections will also be strengthened, due to which IVP councilors are joining BJP to ensure their political future.

BJP councilors will increase
With the joining of IVP councilors to BJP, the number of BJP members will increase to 139 out of 250. Only 104 BJP councilors had won in the 2022 corporation general elections. At present, with the joining of common man councilors to BJP, the number is 123. Now after the joining of 16 IVP councilors, the number of BJP members will become 139. In this way BJP’s position will be strengthened.

IVP has 16 councilors, who will join BJP. There are two MCD councilors in Narela zone, one in Civil Lines zone, two in Rohini zone, one in City SP zone, one in Karol Bagh zone, three in Western zone, one in Central zone, three in South zone and two in Shahdara South zone. In this way, BJP’s position will become stronger in all the zones of MCD.
