Taking major action, a joint team of GRP and RPF has arrested a person with new currency worth Rs 16 lakh at Varanasi Cantt Railway Station. The accused was trying to escape from the train, but due to the vigilance of the police, he was caught. According to the information, this action was taken on platform number 8, where train number 12237 Begumpura Express was standing. Meanwhile, a person was standing near the general coach with a bag and a trolley bag. As soon as he saw the GRP and RPF team coming towards him, he got scared and tried to run away by getting down from the train.
The team took immediate action and caught him and took him to the police station for questioning. During interrogation, the accused revealed his name as Ravi Gulati, son of Gyanchandra Gulati, resident of Punjabi Colony, Tilhar police station, Tilhar district, Shahjahanpur. He told that he was going to Shahjahanpur. Police searched his bag, in which a large amount of new currency was recovered from the pitthu bag and trolley bag.
Trying to run away after seeing GRP-RPF
These notes were of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 rupees, which were packed in foil and tied with rubber bands. After counting, the total amount was found to be Rs 16 lakh. When the police asked the accused for documents related to this amount, he could not show any valid documents. After this the team seized the entire amount and took the accused into custody.
The accused was caught in suspicious condition
GRP Inspector Rajol Nagar said that information about this matter has been given to the Income Tax Department. The accused and the recovered amount have been handed over to the Income Tax Department team for further action. After this action, vigilance regarding security arrangements at the railway station has been increased. The police are now investigating from where such a huge amount was brought and for what purpose it was to be used.
