Late night in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city, the police took major action against illegally running hookah parlors and raided three cafes. In this action of Ambajhari police station, many young men and women were caught consuming hookah and drugs. Police have seized a large quantity of hookah material, flavored tobacco and other items from the spot.
Police simultaneously raided Soro Cafe, Nimbus Lounge and Hash Cafe. Investigation revealed that hookah and intoxicant related materials were being provided illegally to the customers in these cafes. During the action, a case has been registered against the cafe operators, employees and customers.
According to the police, Soro Cafe was being run by accused Dnyaneshwar Ganapati Yonikar. Here hookah was being served to the customers with the help of six waiters. During the raid, 17 male and five female customers were found intoxicated. Police took action against a total of 29 people in this case and seized hookah material, flavored tobacco and other items worth about Rs 1 lakh 16 thousand.
Similarly, N.B. of Ambazari police station area. Police also raided the Nimbus lounge operating in Lakshmi Apartment located on the road. Here the accused Sheikh Sameer Vakil Ahmed was providing drugs to the customers with the help of his employees. Police arrested 23 male and three female customers from the spot. The investigation also revealed that some of the arrested young men and women belonged to elite families. Some of them were students, while some are also said to have links with criminal activities.
At the same time, the police also took action against the hash cafe operating in the same premises. Cafe operator Arsalan Faheem Mirza along with one of his waiters was providing hookah of different flavors to the customers. Nine male and four female customers were caught from here. Police registered a case against a total of 15 accused and seized hookah material worth about Rs 40 thousand.
According to police officials, all three cafes were kept closed from outside and customers were allowed to enter through the back or alternative routes, so that no one could get a clue of it. In this action taken on the basis of secret information, the police have registered a case against more than 100 people including operators, employees and customers. At present the investigation of the case is going on.
