A young couple in Bareilly committed suicide by consuming poison on Saturday as their families opposed their relationship and plans to get married. A police officer gave this information to a news agency. This incident took place in Makrandpur village of Bhojipura police station area. Officials said the woman died on the spot, while the man died later during treatment.

Police engaged in investigation of the case
Superintendent of Police (North) Mukesh Chandra Mishra said that the police received information at around 3.30 pm that two people had consumed poison in a field in Makrandpur village. A police team reached the spot and found that Medha (19), resident of Ata Manda village, and Rinku (20), resident of Makrandpur, were lying unconscious in the field.

By the time the police arrived, Medha was dead, while Rinku was taken to the Community Health Center and later admitted to the hospital for treatment. Police said that he died on Saturday evening. At present the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway.

Both were in relationship for 5 months
Initial investigation revealed that both belonged to the same community and were in a relationship. According to the police, the families had opposed their marriage because they were relatives. Rinku’s brother Bunty alleged that the couple was in a relationship for about 5 months. He claimed that the woman’s family had objected to the relationship, assaulted him and snatched his mobile phone.

According to the family member, the woman approached Rinku and insisted that they either run away together or commit suicide. After which both of them consumed poison. Police said that the aspect of relationship has come to light during the investigation and statements of the family members are being recorded. Further legal action will be taken on the basis of post mortem report and other evidence.
