बंदरों को भगाने की ड्यूटी, 12 हजार सैलरी और अब आजादी… दिल छू लेगी लंगूर ‘गोलू’ की कहानी – monkey guard langur golu aligarh college story released from duty lcla
Golu, the famous langur who provided relief from the terror of monkeys in Dharma Samaj Mahavidyalaya (DS College) of Aligarh city in UP, has now been freed. The Forest Department returned it to its natural environment and released it safely in the college campus itself. After this decision, Golu will no longer be bound by any salary or duty, but will be able to live in the campus naturally.
Actually, monkey menace had been a serious problem in DS College for a long time. Monkeys often snatched food from the hands of students and attacked them. Many times they would enter the classroom and damage even books and copies. Because of this the study environment was also being affected. The students lived under the constant shadow of fear.

To solve this problem, the college administration took a unique step. About two years ago, a trained langur was deployed in the campus. The students lovingly named him Golu. Golu was hired on a monthly salary of Rs 12,000 and his duty was fixed from 8 am to 5 pm.

The effect of the langur’s presence soon became visible. As soon as Golu stayed in the campus, monkeys did not even wander around. Gradually, the problem of monkeys was almost completely eliminated from the college campus. Students and staff heaved a sigh of relief and an atmosphere of security and peace was created in the campus.

Golu was not only a means of security, but also became the center of attraction among the students. Students got their photos clicked with him and started treating him like a family member.
City forest in-charge Puttan Singh said that it is not appropriate to artificially control or keep wildlife in bondage. Keeping this in mind, it was decided to return Golu to his natural environment. He said that the environment of the college campus is already favorable for him, hence he has been released safely there.

The Forest Department believes that allowing wildlife to live in natural conditions is better for their health and behavior. After the release of Golu, a big question is whether the problem of monkeys will no longer exist in the college. However, under the joint monitoring of the college administration and the forest department, the situation is said to be normal.
If there is a problem of monkeys inside the college in future, the forest department and administration can consider other options. At present, Golu has now become a free wildlife from a salaried guard, who has created a distinct identity in the city with his unique role.
