After facing defeat in Mirpur Test, the problems of Pakistani team have increased further. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken major action and imposed a fine of 40 percent of the match fee on the Pakistani team due to slow over rate. Along with this, ICC has also deducted 8 important points from Pakistan’s account in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.
After this punishment of ICC, Pakistan’s condition in the World Test Championship has worsened considerably. Only 4 points are left in Pakistan’s account and it is in seventh place. This team is above only England and West Indies in the table. This setback has made the path to the WTC final very difficult for the Pakistani team.
Why was there such strong action against PAK?
According to ICC, during the Mirpur Test, the Pakistani team had bowled 8 overs less in the stipulated time. According to ICC rules, if the over is not completed within the stipulated time, 5 percent of the match fee is deducted per over. Besides, 1 point is also reduced in WTC. For this reason, the Pakistani team was fined 40 percent of the match fee and 8 points were deducted.
Pakistani captain Shan Masood accepted the allegations made by ICC. After the captain pleaded guilty, there was no need for any formal hearing in the case. The Pakistani team was accused of slow-over rate by on-field umpires Richard Cattleborough and Kumar Dharmasena, third umpire Alauddin Palekar and fourth umpire Ghazi Sohail. After this, ICC Elite Panel match referee Jeff Crowe announced the punishment.
