Norwegian journalist Helle Lyng has suddenly come into limelight by asking a question during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Norway. Amidst the sharp reactions and trolling on social media, Hayley has now claimed that her Instagram and Facebook accounts have been suspended.
Hella Leng herself has shared this information on ‘X’ (Twitter). Hella Leng, who works for Oslo-based newspaper ‘Dagsavisen’, tweeted, ‘If you are trying to contact me on Instagram or Facebook, let me tell you that both my accounts have been suspended. I wanted to respond to as many Indians as possible, but now my responses will be delayed. I hope to get my accounts back.
In her next tweet, she wrote that she struggled to log in to Instagram throughout the day. He further wrote, ‘This is a small price to pay for press freedom, but I have never experienced anything like this before.’

What was the whole controversy?
This whole matter started when PM Modi and his norwayPM Modi was leaving the room after the joint press briefing of his counterpart was over. Then Hella Lange shouted from behind and asked, ‘Why don’t you take some questions from the freest press in the world?’ It is not clear whether PM Modi heard this question or not, but the video of this incident went viral on social media.
After this, when questions were raised on India’s human rights record in the press conference, Sibi George, Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) answered them, but when the Secretary started answering, Hela Leng interrupted and started talking about the answer. On this Sibi George said, “You ask the question, don’t ask me to answer in a particular way.”

Accusations of being ‘foreign plant’ and ‘Chinese proxy’
After this incident, Indian social media users took Hella Lang to task and trolled her fiercely. Many users, citing his old articles, even called him a ‘Chinese proxy’, ‘spy’ and ‘foreign plant’, because in the past he had written articles in praise of Beijing and Xi Jinping. Many people also argued that it was not an official press conference but a joint briefing.
The controversy escalated when it was noticed that Hella Leng’s ‘X’ account had been verified (blue tick) just a few days before the incident and she had not been active on the platform since 2024. Clarifying on this, Hayley wrote that she had got the blue tick by paying money only to correct a typo and she is usually more active on TikTok and Instagram.
He also clarified that he is not a foreign spy but just a journalist. Amidst this entire controversy, Hayley’s popularity has increased rapidly and her followers on ‘X’ have increased from 400 to 45 thousand and are continuously increasing.
