What did the police say?
However, Manipur Police says that for the last few days, rallies are being taken out at night in various areas of Imphal. On several occasions during the rallies, some anti-social elements disguised themselves as protesters and indulged in violent activities. These include the use of petrol bombs, use of slingshots equipped with iron projectiles and stone pelting on security forces.
Despite these provocations, the security forces have exercised maximum restraint while dispersing the crowd, so that no damage is caused. There is an appeal to all citizens to help maintain peace and harmony and stay away from violent protests. Legal action will be taken against those involved in the violence as well as those instigating it.
