A man, who was serving life imprisonment after being convicted in a murder case in Delhi in 2013, had absconded after going on furlough. He kept throwing dust in the eyes of the police for five years.
He was finally arrested by Delhi Police near Anand Vihar Railway Station.
According to the information, the accused has been identified as 45-year-old Robin Tamang alias Jojo. He was absconding since 2021. He was released from Mandoli jail on three weeks’ furlough on 3 September 2021.
This period was extended from time to time, but later he did not surrender. Ran away.
He was convicted in the murder case of his friend Neeraj. On the day of this incident, he had reached the house of a woman he knew. He called Neeraj out. There was a dispute between the two regarding their relationship with the woman.
The dispute between the two escalated so much that Tamang stabbed Neeraj several times in the chest.
Due to this Neeraj died. He fled from the spot after the incident, but was later arrested. After the case went on in the court, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Meanwhile, he came out of jail on furlough.
But after the furlough period ended, he did not go back to jail.
According to the police, apart from his village in West Bengal, Robin Tamang kept roaming in different areas of Nagaland, Meghalaya, Haryana and Delhi-NCR. To hide his identity, he worked as a helper at roadside food shops and stalls.
During this period, Delhi Police continued searching for the accused.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police formed a special team to search for the accused. That team started monitoring the activities of the accused. During this time, the police got information about his coming and going to Delhi.
The police caught him on February 15 by laying a trap around Anand Vihar railway station.
