Madhya Pradesh has made great achievements in the field of preservation of India’s ancient knowledge tradition and cultural heritage. The state has reached the first position in the country by registering the maximum number of rare ancient manuscripts on the ‘Gyan Bharatam’ app of the Government of India. Till now, 34 lakh 45 thousand 439 manuscript pages have been registered in the state, while verification of 12 lakh 13 thousand 127 manuscripts has also been completed. Verification of remaining manuscripts is ongoing.

According to the information, till July 3, 2026 Madhya Pradesh Till now, a total of 34 lakh 45 thousand 439 manuscript pages have been successfully registered on the app. Out of these, 12 lakh 13 thousand 127 manuscripts have been verified, while the remaining pages are in the process of authentication.

Rare ancient manuscripts found in districts
During this digital search and registration campaign, such historical materials have been found from many districts of the state, which are surprising the researchers.

Tikamgarh: A 10 feet long mysterious map of Jambudweep depicting ancient Indian geography has been found from here. There is a beautiful circular structure in the center of this hand-made map, around which mountain ranges and ancient areas have been intricately carved.

Emerald: The original handwritten manuscript of ‘Rasik Priya’, written by Keshav Das, the famous great poet of Ritikal period, in the year 1591 AD has been recovered from the famous Shri Ram Janaki Temple of Panna. In this, poetics and the difference between heroines have been explained through the love affairs of Radha and Krishna.

Burhanpur: A 220 years old handwritten and 20 feet long ancient book ‘Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran’ has been found from the historical city of Burhanpur, which has been preserved.

Datia: A historical copper plate inscription of the reign of Orchha King Raja Uddot Singh has been found from the residence of local resident Shri Radha Vallabh Mishra, on which Vikram Samvat 1828 is inscribed.

What is ‘Gyan Bharatam App’ and how can citizens become participants?
‘Gyan Bharatam App’ is a unique digital platform of the Central Government, whose objective is to create a ‘digital archive’ of Indian heritage imbued with the spirit of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. This app has the facility of ‘Smart Search’, through which any student or researcher from India or the world can search the manuscript on the basis of author, title, subject or language.

The Additional Chief Secretary has also appealed to the common citizens that if any old handwritten book, copper plate or scripture is available with any ancient family, monastery or institution, then they can get it digitized and preserved for free with the help of the Government of India by directly giving information about it on this app.
