These five students were from the Muslim community, who are accused of forcibly feeding beef to two Hindu children studying in their class.
When this matter reached the school principal and the parents of these Hindu students, they protested against this incident. After this FIR, the police called all the five Muslim students and their parents who brought beef in tiffin to the police station and after interrogation, arrested the mother of a Muslim student under the Assam Cattle Preservation Act.
The name of this woman is Noor Sahida Begum, who is accused of knowingly putting beef in her son’s tiffin and this also happened when killing of cattle and other animals and eating beef is illegal in Assam and it is considered a serious crime.
It had never happened before that a mother had packed school tiffin for her son and got arrested for it. In this case, discussions are going on to expel the five Muslim students who had brought beef in their tiffin from the government school of Goalpara. For this, an inquiry committee of 10 members has been formed, which will tell whether these children can be expelled from school for bringing beef to school.
There are ’14 lakh 71 thousand’ schools in our country, in which a total of 24 crore 69 lakh children study. And when the mothers of these children would pack their school ‘tiffin’, they would never have thought that this matter could also come under criminal charges. But this happened in Assam and it has sparked a new debate whether even school tiffin can get a parent arrested.
There are no special laws, rules or guidelines regarding children’s tiffin in our country. For example, in the mid-day meal given to children in government schools of Assam, an egg is also found in it, which comes in the category of non-veg.
Before this incident in Assam, there were no such guidelines that children cannot bring non-veg in their tiffin, but when this controversy happened, such rules were issued in Goalpara and instructions were given that from now on no child will bring non-veg in their tiffin.
