In Jaipur’s largest medical college SMS, kidney patients are trapped in a locked room. Since May 31, after the retirement of the unit head of the Nephrology department, kidney transplant is not being done for 11 patients due to non-receipt of files. However, it is being said that doctors of government hospitals are working in private hospitals under the pretext of being locked in file rooms. Only 6 senior nephrologists are working in government hospitals across Rajasthan.

The attendants, who are bearing the brunt of this administrative negligence, have been waiting for their turn for months in the rooms of ‘Modi Dharamshala’ built right in front of the hospital.

Case 1 (Room No. 121): Ramnivas of Churu has been camping here for the last 6 months for the transplant of his son Naveen. Naveen needs dialysis every third day. His mother is ready to donate her kidney and has been roaming around with the fitness certificate for 15 days, but the doctor is making the excuse of a closed file.

Case 2 (Room No. 126): Jayantilal of Banswara has been living in this Dharamshala since March 10 with his 48-year-old wife Anita. Anita undergoes dialysis every other day, but the doctors have only one rote answer that the file is locked in the room.

Case 3: Mahendra of Bansur has brought his son Komal here since December 2025. NOC and police verification everything has been done, but due to the indifference of the doctors, treatment is not being done. Due to high blood pressure, Komal is continuously vomiting and her weight has reduced from 58 kg to just 45 kg.

The entire system came to a standstill due to the retirement of one doctor
The root of the entire controversy is the room of Dr. Dhananjay Aggarwal, which Rajasthan He is considered to be the best Nephrologist. Before his retirement on May 31, 2026, all the transplants were done under his supervision. But after his departure, the present in-charge doctors refused to treat the patients or take them to the operation theater saying that the case files were locked in Dr. Dhananjay’s room and he did not have the key.

When the treating doctor Sanjeev Sharma was talked to in this regard, his extremely irresponsible attitude was revealed. He said, “My job is not to find files. I did not have the files on my table, so we did not do the transplant case. We are just doing routine dialysis of the remaining patients.”

At the same time, Dr. Vinay Malhotra, HOD of Nephrology Department, who returned from leave, whitewashed the entire matter and said that there was talk of opening the room which would be opened soon and the key was right here. He also admitted that if the doctor wanted, he could have started the treatment by creating a new file or on the basis of the data available on the online portal, because all the files remain digitally safe.

‘Aaj Tak’ investigation
In the investigative investigation of ‘Aaj Tak’, a big and bitter truth behind this negligence has come to light. In fact, at present only 6 senior nephrologists are working in government hospitals across Rajasthan. Due to small numbers, these doctors are in huge demand in private corporate hospitals. According to the investigation, these doctors come to the government hospital for only one to two hours to mark their attendance and supply food and spend the rest of their precious time in performing kidney transplants in private hospitals. Since free dialysis and treatment is provided in government hospitals under the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Yojana, doctors are making this fake excuse of closure of files to avoid workload and free treatment.
