One Iraqi soldier was killed and two others were injured in this attack.
After this, Iraq sent two more units of its ‘Counter Terrorism Service’ for investigation. There they found evidence that there was a foreign military force present on the ground which was getting air protection.
America’s role
Initially Iraq held America responsible for this attack and also filed a complaint with the United Nations (UN). However, American officials said that they had no role in that attack. When an American F-15 plane fell near Isfahan, Iran in early April, Israel offered help from its secret base, but the US military itself rescued its two pilots. However, Israel did carry out air strikes to provide security to that rescue operation.

The western desert area of Iraq is very vast and the population there is very less. According to Michael Knights of strategic advisory firm ‘Horizon Engage’, such places were previously used by American Special Forces in the 1991 and 2003 wars.
