Amidst the severe floods in Assam, the Indian Army has shown immediate disaster relief and humanitarian service and has so far rescued 571 people safely. Due to continuous monsoon rains, the water level of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries has increased, many villages of Upper Assam have been submerged. There has been huge damage to houses, crops and many important communication routes.
Considering the seriousness of the situation, Spear Corps started relief and rescue operations continuously day and night from 19 July 2026. Under Operation Jal Rahat, three special relief teams comprising 45 soldiers were deployed in the worst-affected districts including Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat.

Assam Coordinating with the government and local administration, army personnel are carrying out relief and rescue work through motorboats in the fast flowing flood streams. Teams equipped with special engineering equipment and emergency medical supplies reached every village and evacuated children, elderly and stranded people to safe places. Necessary medical aid and relief material was also provided.
An army officer said, ‘Along with protecting the country’s borders, helping civilians during natural disasters is also one of our top priorities.’
This ongoing relief operation in Upper Assam is an excellent example of the commitment, dedication and humanitarian service of the Indian Armed Forces in this hour of disaster. With the water level gradually returning to normal, the Army is continuing the work of providing relief to the affected people and taking them to safe places.
