Reviewing the situation, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the government is constantly keeping an eye on the threat of possible drought arising due to the effect of El Nino. He has directed all concerned ministries to work together with the states and take necessary steps to help the farmers.
Amit Shah On Friday, he held a meeting with senior officials of several ministries including Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. During this, the situation of less rainfall in the country along with its impact and further preparations were discussed in detail. It was clearly stated in the meeting that wherever there is water shortage, the right advice should reach the farmers on time, so that the loss of crops is minimized.
According to news agency PTI, Amit Shah said that the government is constantly monitoring the situation of low rainfall and possible drought due to El Nino. He also asked all the ministries to maintain better coordination with the states.

In the meeting, the Agriculture Ministry was instructed that in areas where rainfall is less, farmers should be given information about such crops which require less water. Along with this, emphasis was also laid on promoting crops like coarse grains, pulses and animal fodder. Also, the Water Resources Department was asked to continuously monitor the water level of all the major reservoirs of the country, so that decisions can be taken in time if necessary.
Electricity supply was also discussed in the meeting. Amit Shah directed that electricity supply in the country should continue without any interruption. Officials said that at present there is sufficient stock of essential food grains in the country and the prices of essential commodities are also under control.
Record low rainfall in June
Season The department’s figures show that the month of June this year has been the fifth driest month since 1901. Only 99.5 mm of rain was recorded in the entire month, which is about 40 percent less than normal. The worst condition is in Central India, where water shortage has been recorded at more than 50 percent. Along with this, the Indian Meteorological Department has also predicted less than normal rainfall in July, due to which the concern regarding sowing of crops and water crisis has increased.
Assam And instructions for Arunachal also
On one hand, a large part of the country is facing the threat of drought, on the other hand, the situation of floods, landslides and massive destruction in Assam and Arunachal was also reviewed. The Home Ministry has been instructed that a central team should immediately visit these states. This team will make a ground assessment of the damage caused there, so that the Central Government can provide help to the affected areas as soon as possible.
