“The EC has zero tolerance for any form of violence, intimidation or incitement towards any voter,” the CEC reportedly told officials involved in conducting elections in four states and one union territory. An EC official said that several transfers in the World Bank, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam are aimed at cleaning up elements that have become lenient in the administration and the police. “In states like WB, violence and intimidation characterize polls. This cycle has to be stopped,” the official said, adding that the deployment of 1,111 observers is a step in that direction.
