New Delhi: Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday questioned why he did not address Pakistan’s threat to attack Kolkata.Addressing an election rally in Nadia district, he said: “You (Prime Minister) target Bengal in election rallies; but when Pakistan talks about attacking Bengal, you don’t utter a single word. You should resign.“Expressing concern over the Centre’s response, he questioned Prime Minister ModiHis recent rally in Cooch Behar was silent on the issue.“Why didn’t the Prime Minister raise the issue in his rally in Bengal? When Pakistan’s Defense Minister said that they would attack Kolkata, why didn’t the Prime Minister say that ‘we will take strict action’?”Banerjee asserted that threats to the country and the state would not be tolerated. He further said, “Just as we do not accept any threat to the country, we will not accept any threat to Calcutta lying down.”His comments came after Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif warned that Islamabad would respond to the attack in Kolkata if there was any ‘adventurer in the future’ by India.“If India tries to launch a false flag operation this time, God willing, we will take it to Kolkata,” Asif said while talking to reporters in Sialkot.The statement comes after tensions between India and Pakistan escalated in recent months, with both sides issuing stern warnings. Asif had earlier described Pakistan’s response to any move by India as “swift, measured and decisive”, responding to India’s stance on cross-border threats.India has maintained that it will respond strongly to any cross-border threat, reiterating that it does not differentiate between terrorist groups and their supporters.(with inputs from PTI)
