Xiaomi has rapidly strengthened its hold in the Android tablet market in the last few years. Recently the company has launched Xiaomi Pad 8. I have been using this tablet continuously for some time now, which includes daily work, content consumption, gaming and productivity. In this review we will talk about all the aspects of this tablet. Will tell you whether it is worth buying or not.
Xiaomi Pad 8: Design and build quality
As soon as you take Xiaomi Pad 8 in hand, the first thing that catches your attention is its premium look and feel. The build quality is solid. The company has given aluminum alloy unibody design in it, which makes it strong and solid.
The back panel is smooth and comes with a matte finish, making fingerprints less visible. The frame is flat, which follows the modern design trends of today, and it also feels quite comfortable to hold. It is quite easy to attach the keyboard to it because it has a magnetic system. The feedback of the trackpad is also good for this segment.
it tablet It is quite thin and the weight has also been kept balanced, due to which the hands do not feel tired after using it for a long time. Whether you use it sitting on the sofa or lying on the bed, both its grip and feel are good.
The camera module is slightly raised at the back, in which a single camera setup is provided, but as per the design it looks clean and minimal.
The placement of power button and volume button is at the right place and their feedback is also good. Speakers are provided all around, which come with stereo output.
Xiaomi Pad 8: display
Xiaomi Pad 8 has a large IPS LCD panel of about 11 inches, whose resolution is around 3.2K and the refresh rate goes up to 144Hz. This means that the screen looks both very sharp and smooth. The screen will also feel premium as soon as you turn it on.
In real life usage, whether you are watching videos, browsing the web or playing games, the screen performs well everywhere. The colors are vibrant but do not appear oversaturated, and the brightness is also such that reading the screen indoors as well as outdoors is not a problem.
Due to Dolby Vision and HDR support, watching content on OTT platform gives a different experience. There is not much strain on the eyes even after watching videos for a long time.
Xiaomi Pad 8: performance
In terms of performance, Xiaomi Pad 8 was a mixed bag. It has Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series chipset, which is considered to be of flagship level. Along with this, 8GB or 12GB RAM and fast UFS storage is available, due to which apps open quickly and multitasking remains smooth.
In my use, I did everything from heavy gaming to switching between multiple apps on this tablet, and most of the time it worked without any lag. High graphics games also run smoothly and frame drops are rarely seen.
It starts getting a little hot during multitasking and gaming for a long time. The issue of heating also did not seem to be a big deal, although slight warmth is definitely felt during long gaming sessions, but it is normal and does not affect the performance much.
Xiaomi Pad 8: camera
The use of camera in tablets is limited. Video calling is the biggest use case. Because like a mobile, you cannot take it everywhere and make photos or videos. That’s why the camera in a tablet does not have that big a focus. Although Xiaomi has done a good job here also.
A 13-megapixel camera is provided at the rear, which takes decent photos in good light. Be it scanning documents or sometimes clicking photos, it does the job well. Videos also become decent.
There is an 8 megapixel camera on the front, which is great for video calling and online meetings. The special thing is that the position of the camera is such that the framing remains correct during video calls, which is necessary for work from home or online classes.
Xiaomi Pad 8: software
Talking about software, Xiaomi Pad 8 has Android based HyperOS, which has been specially optimized for large screens. Multitasking features like split screen and floating window are very useful.
I used it for daily work productivity like reading documents, taking notes and web browsing, and the experience was quite smooth. However, at some places there is still a lack of app optimization, which is seen in almost all Android tablets. Pre-loaded apps sometimes become a cause of trouble.
The stylus and keyboard support make it a mini laptop, but it’s still not a full laptop replacement.
Xiaomi Pad 8: Battery
Even in terms of battery, Xiaomi Pad 8 does not disappoint. It has a big battery of around 9200mAh, which comfortably gives a backup of up to two days. 45W fast charging support makes it charge quickly. If you use it for normal use like watching videos, browsing and doing light work, then it will last for two days, otherwise 1.5 days.
Xiaomi Pad 8: bottom line
After a few days of use, it would not be wrong to say that Xiaomi Pad 8 is a well balanced tablet. Its display is brilliant, performance is strong and the design gives a premium feel. It is great for content consumption and also handles productivity well.
But if you are looking at it purely as an alternative to a laptop, then it is still lacking a bit, especially in terms of software optimization. Still, it is a strong contender in its price segment and can prove to be a good all-rounder for most users.
