New Delhi: Four-legged army hero Tyson was shot in the leg during Operation Trashy-I in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar and is “recovering”. The army said on Tuesday that he was “injured but in high spirits”, having shown bravery while leading a raid on a terrorist hideout.A German Shepherd, serving in the army, showed true Indian spirit by playing a key role in neutralizing Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JM) commander Saifullah and his two associates at their mud house hideout (dhok) in the foothills of Paserkoot in the Chatru belt on Sunday.“In the recent Operation Trashy-1 in Kishtwar, the attack dog ‘Tyson’ showed extraordinary courage by taking the first bullet while leading the way into the terrorists’ hideout. Undeterred by his injuries, he went ahead and launched a vicious attack, forcing the terrorists to open fire and thereby confirming their presence,” the Army’s White Knight Corps said in a post on X.The army added that Tyson’s fearlessness enabled troops of the White Knight Corps, police and CRPF to precisely engage and neutralize the three Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.“Wounded, alert and recovering in high spirits, Tyson exemplified unwavering devotion to duty – a true warrior and a soldier in every sense,” the Army said, adding, “The search continues – those seeking to disturb the peace will find no refuge.”After suffering an injury to one of his front legs, the K9 trooper was airlifted to a veterinary hospital, officials said.The General Officer Commanding of the White Knight Corps, Lieutenant General PK Mishra, visited Tyson at the veterinary center and reviewed his medical condition, they added.The Corps Commander interacted with the veterinary team present, directed to ensure best possible care and appreciated the role of the Army’s dog unit in counter-terrorism operations.
