He said that he stands with people of all castes, communities and religions, when the saffron party alleged that it was trying to undermine the rights of citizens through SIR.Speaking after Eid prayers at Red Road, Banerjee alleged that the SIR was part of a larger attempt to influence the electoral process in West Bengal. He claimed that voters’ names were deleted under the exercise and said he took the matter from Calcutta to Delhi, approaching both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court. “I hope people’s rights will be protected,” he added.“Those who are targeting Bengal and trying to divide people should go to hell,” the West Bengal chief minister was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.His comments came amid a growing political row over the voter list verification exercise, which the TMC has repeatedly said is an attempt to erase the names of genuine voters, especially from minority-dominated areas, ahead of assembly elections.Citing Bengal’s long-standing tradition of communal harmony, the chief minister said the state would not allow efforts to divide the society to succeed.Mamata said, “Bangla believes in unity. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians live together here. We will not allow anyone to break this social structure.” “I stand with everyone in Bengal, with all castes, communities and religions. I will continue this fight. We will not let Modi ji take away our rights,” he added.Mamata also alleged that the Center is trying to control the state government. “You are trying to control our government by force, you want to impose President’s rule. Elections to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, with counting on May 4.On Friday, TMCO approached the Calcutta High Court, challenging the transfer of several IAS and IPS officers to West Bengal by the Election Commission of India after the announcement of the assembly elections.
