New Delhi: Informal Group of Ministers (iGoM) headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh Wednesday directed all departments to continue to focus on building preparedness, coordination and resilience to be ready to face any eventuality due to conflict in West Asia.In a post on X, Rajnath said the government is ensuring continued availability of LPG, petrol and diesel, fertilizers for farmers and essential commodities in the country. The IGOM was informed that India had secured the “highest number of vessel evacuations than any other country” from the Strait of Hormuz in the last 40 days. Eight LPG ships, carrying about 340TM, equivalent to about 11 days of India’s import needs, successfully crossed the strait, strengthening the country’s energy security and supply stability.Ministers and top government officials were briefed about the steps taken to address the issues, including doubling the supply of 5 kg free trade LPG cylinders beyond the 20% allocation earmarked for priority categories to support vulnerable communities, including migrant workers.“Oil PSU retail pump outlets continue to supply automated LPG to support public transport requirements. However, some supply constraints are being faced by private operators due to their procurement challenges, resulting in increased footfall at PSU outlets,” a government statement said. The IGOM was also informed about the reduction in energy prices in light of the ceasefire. The ministers were informed that key sectoral parameters will continue to be closely monitored and appropriate action will be taken.
