New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah A group of foreigners – including an American citizen and six Ukrainians – said Fridaynians — Recently arrested by the NIA from Kolkata, Lucknow and Delhi did not pose any threat to India, but were trying to use the country as a transit point to Myanmar for terrorist training.“They were caught while planning to transit Mizoram In Myanmar, where rebel bases will be used to train Ukrainians. They did not take the prior permission required of foreigners to enter Mizoram,” Shah said.This is the first time a government official has clarified on record that the group’s interests were merely a transit point between Myanmar and India.“No threat has been posed to India’s security. It is our policy that any foreigner visiting India for any wrongdoing will not be spared,” he said.When asked about the March 31, 2026 deadline to defeat Naxalism, the home minister said it was not about winning or losing but stopping the attacks and blasts that, in former prime minister Manmohan Singh’s words, made it the biggest internal security threat.Naxalism has been significantly curbed under Prime Minister Modi, he said, with development now reaching tribal areas across the Tirupati-Pashupatinath corridor.
