Two metro stations in Delhi renamed, names of 7 others modified | India News
New Delhi: The state naming authority headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has renamed nine metro stations in Delhi.The authority, which considered proposals to rename 21 metro stations, retained 12, modified seven and renamed two, a statement from the chief minister’s office said.Gupta said that the names of the metro stations were finalized in keeping with the sentiments of the people and the local identity.The names of the revised stations are: Uttari Pitampura-Prasant Vihar (formerly Prashant Vihar), Jagatpur-Wazirabad (formerly Jagatpur), Nanak Piau-Derawal Nagar (formerly Derawal Nagar), Khanpur-Bayusainabad (formerly Khanpur), Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar (Sonia Vihar), Sri Ramir Vihar (Sonia Vihar). Mayur Vihar Pocket 1), and Mongolpur Kalan-West Enclave (formerly Western Enclave).Further, North Pitampura has been named as Hyderpur Village and Madhuban Chowk in Pitampura according to their local identity, the statement said.The names originally proposed in the detailed project report are: Majlis Park, Valswa, Hyderpur Badli Mor, Deepali Chowk, Jamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khejuri Khas, Sorghat, Jharoda Majra, Burari, Pushpanjali and Maujpur-Babarpur.The Chief Minister said that metro stations are not only points of transit, but also reflect the identity and cultural significance of the regions they serve. Therefore, each name was finalized only after careful consideration.In finalizing the name, key issues including the local identity of the area, their historical, social and cultural importance and recommendations received from local public representatives and citizens were discussed, he said, adding that such proposals would be considered in future if reasonable.
