New Delhi: Two IndiGo flights scheduled to land at Indore were diverted to Bhopal on Tuesday after loose bitumen was detected on a section of the runway during a routine inspection amid ongoing reconstruction work.According to Indore Airport PRO, the repair and cleaning work was completed within 20 minutes, after which the runway was declared safe and flight operations resumed. “During a casual inspection, while the runway re-carpeting work was in progress, some loose bitumen was observed on a portion of the runway surface. The civil engineering team attended the site immediately, and the necessary repairs and cleaning work was completed within 20 minutes.” “After confirming that the runway surface was safe and fit for operation, the runway was handed over to ATC to resume flight operations. Due to temporary disruption, two IndiGo flights, 6E6605 (DEL-IDR) and 6E6219 (RPR-IDR), have been diverted for normal flight operations.”Meanwhile, a dry grass fire broke out in the non-functional area of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore airport late on Wednesday night.According to fire sub-inspector Rupchand Pandit, the fire was reported and teams were immediately deployed to control the fire.No casualties were reported in the incident and flight operations continued uninterrupted, officials said.Local workers at the scene said that the fire spread to the neighboring campus and nearby forest area.“Even we don’t know how it happened, we were worried for a long time, and we called everyone… We don’t know how far this fire has spread yet. The fire brigade has also come, and everyone is trying to douse the fire,” a worker told ANI.
