‘To divide West Bengal’: Mamata claims Centre trying to ‘trifurcate’ state through delimitation | India News
New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused the Center of carrying out a demarcation exercise to bifurcate the state.Addressing election rallies in Chatna and Onda in West Bengal’s Bankura district, Mamata said that parts of West Bengal could be merged with Bihar and Odisha and this would cause hardship to Bengalis living in those areas.
“BJP is planning to bring a boundary bill to divide West Bengal into three parts. It may merge parts of West Bengal with Bihar or Odisha and torture Bengalis there,” Mamata said.Mamata also alleged that the BJP had struck a deal worth Rs 1,000 crore to oust the Trinamool Congress from power in the state. He apparently referred to a viral video of Aam Janata Unya Party chief Humayun Kabir, who was allegedly heard saying that he was in close contact with BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, to oust Mamata from power and that he had received Rs 200 crore as an advance payment for a Rs 1,000-crore deal to split the TMC.“They (BJP) have made a Rs 1,000-crore deal to oust the TMC from power in West Bengal,” the party supremo said.He also alleged that central forces deployed in the state for the upcoming elections were “disrespecting” women in the name of conducting searches. The chief minister also claimed that he was not allowed to hold a rally despite the availability of space, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was granted express clearance for the meeting. He also accused the BJP of bribing voters ahead of elections and called the Special Intensive Revision of Voters List (SIR) the “biggest scam in the country” in recent times.“SIR is the biggest scam in the country in recent times. Everyone in the world knows that your government will fall in 2026. We will then repeal all anti-people laws brought by your government,” he added.“BJP bribes voters before elections. But they forget their promises after polls are over. It was seen in the Bihar elections,” said Mamata. The TMC chief also alleged that the BJP would try to manipulate the polling process to win the elections and urged people to be alert and keep a tab on the voting machines.“Beware of voting machines. BJP has planned slow polling and slow counting. Let all their plans be foiled,” Banerjee said.He also alleged that the BJP was planning to give people “spiked tea and sweets” to “loot votes”.“They are planning to give you spiked tea and sweets, which will make you sleepy and they will loot your votes…Be careful,” he said.He also questioned the BJP’s election promise to fill vacancies in government offices, “What happened to his (Modi) promise to provide 2 crore jobs to the youth?”
