‘Talk about youth and women of Assam’: Priyanka Gandhi slams CM Himanta Sarma over remarks on Gaurav Gagoi’s family | India News
New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma on Friday slammed him, saying he was “upset” by MP Gaurav Gogoi amid a controversy over alleged “Pakistan links”.He accused Sarma of attacking Gogoi and his family because he was pursuing “politics of love”.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Priyanka Gandhi said there are “two types of leaders” in politics – those who practice positive politics and those who rely on polarization and personal attacks.“There are two types of leaders – one, who has a positive mindset and the other who believes in polarization and attacks people. The way Gaurav ji (Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi) and his family are being targeted proves that this kind of politics is wrong. I think the people of Assam know that the other side is being manipulated by them; This is the reason why all this is happening. He is being attacked because he is walking on the right path...It’s like a badge of honour,” he said when asked about Sarma’s repeated attacks on Gogoi over alleged links with Pakistan.“Nobody (a political leader) should attack family and children,” added Priyanka. The comments come amid an ongoing political storm in Assam, where Chief Minister Himanta Sarma has repeatedly alleged that Gogoi and his wife are having an affair with Pakistani national Ali Taukeer Sheikh, conspiring to undermine India’s development. Sarma announced that the investigation along with the evidence has been handed over to the central agency, while the SIT probe is also set to be transferred.Taking a direct swipe, the Wayanad MP said the Assam chief minister should “talk about the youth and women of the state, who are looking for jobs.”He told reporters, “You see how much corruption is happening. It is just a betrayal of the people of the state.”
