Students showcase STEM projects at science carnival in Navi Mumbai | India News
The seventh edition of the Amazon Think Big Science Carnival was held on March 6 at the CIDCO Exhibition Center in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, bringing together municipal school students to present science and technology-based solutions to real-world challenges.Supported by Amazon and implemented by the Learning Links Foundation, the program engaged over 12,000 students from schools run by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation over a period of five months. The initiative culminated in a grand finale where selected teams presented working prototypes and ideas based on themes such as “STEM for Sustainability” and “Tech for Good”. According to the organizers, the selection process involves multiple stages. Around 90 student teams first presented their projects in the three-day mini science carnival, after which industry experts, government representatives and academics shortlisted the top 20 teams to showcase their innovations at the final event.The carnival also featured activities like a STEM quiz competition and a robo race, aimed at encouraging analytical thinking, technical knowledge and teamwork among the participants.More than 2,500 students visited the event, which included interactive exhibits and hands-on learning sessions. Speaking at the event, Nikhil Pingle, COO of Learning Links Foundation said that witnessing students presenting their ideas highlights the importance of providing opportunities for young learners. Anurag Khilnani, director, planning and delivery, data centre, APAC, Amazon, said he was encouraged to see the students turn their ideas into practical solutions. He also acknowledged the role of schools, teachers and program partners in supporting innovation among students.
