South director Ranjeet arrested: The actress had made allegations of sexual harassment in the vanity during the shooting, sent to judicial custody for 14 days
The southern director, who has won 4 National Film Awards and 6 Kerala State Film Awards, was arrested from Kochi on Tuesday. The actress had accused him of sexual harassment, after which he was arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days. According to ANI report, Director Ranjith was arrested late on Tuesday night by Thodupuzha Police on the instructions of Idukki SP. After her arrest, she was handed over to Udayamperur police station, where the actress has lodged a complaint. After the arrest, the director has been produced before the Ernakulam Magistrate, where after interrogation, he has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days (April 13). After the arrest, the director complained of deteriorating health. According to the report of Navbharat Times, after the arrest late on Tuesday night, Director Ranjit complained of restlessness, after which he was taken to Ernakulam General Hospital for examination. Hospital officials investigated and found that he did not have any serious health problems. At present the director is in Ernakulam sub-jail. What is the whole controversy? The South actress had recently filed a sexual harassment complaint with the film’s ICC (Internal Complaints Committee). According to the actress’ complaint, director Ranjith Balakrishnan came to her vanity van during a film shooting on January 30 and tried to sexually assault her. The committee handed over this matter to Kerala Police. The initial investigation of this case was kept completely confidential. The statement of the actress was also recorded confidentially. Many such complaints have been filed against the director even before this case. Many such complaints have been filed against Ranjit Balakrishnan. In 2024, Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra had accused him of touching her inappropriately. The actress, while filing a complaint on August 23, 2024 after the Hema Committee report, said that in the year 2009, the director called her to his flat for the audition of the film Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha and touched her inappropriately. Then the director had called all these allegations baseless. In October 2025, the Kerala High Court quashed the case saying that the complaint was filed too late. Apart from this, in October 2024 also, the 31-year-old actor had filed a complaint against director Ranjit accusing him of sexual harassment. His allegation was that during the shooting in 2012, the director forced the actor to drink alcohol and sexually assaulted him in the hotel. This case was also canceled by the Karnataka High Court in July 2025.
