Sooraj Barjatya is once again presenting the audience with his unique world of love and family values. Through his new show ‘Sangmarmar’, he is presenting the depth of relationships and continuity of emotions in a new way in the changing times. This love journey spanning 25 years is not just the story of two people, but an extension of the sensibilities that connect generations. Made in collaboration with Jio Studios, the series is also an attempt to build a bridge between television and OTT, where family audiences and the new generation can connect together. In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Sooraj Barjatya openly expressed his views on the changing definitions of love. He believes that no matter what the times, the desire for true love and respect remains the same within every human being. Even amidst action and noise, emotional stories have their place, provided there is truth and belief in them. Barjatya believes that a good story eventually takes its course and the demand for family films continues even today. Here are some key excerpts from the conversation with Sooraj Barjatya.. Question: How special is ‘Sangmarmar’ for you? What is your involvement in this? Answer: ‘Sangmarmar’ is very close to me, as it has been one of my father’s favorite stories. I am grateful to Jio Studios that they came to us and said that they wanted to make a project that would act as a bridge between television and OTT. Content that works equally well on both mediums and can connect people. After this we all sat down, writer Rajneeta Sharma ji joined and kept crafting this story for about eight-nine months. This is Amrita and Aditya’s love journey of 25 years, which starts from the streets of Agra in 1998. Meeting on the pretext of Antakshari, then not being able to get married due to circumstances, and even then a journey of 25 years together. In this journey there are births, deaths, happiness, blood pressure problems, anxiety attacks, everything. It is a layered love story. ‘Sangmarmar’ symbolizes the purity of a relationship, which does not fade with time. Question: In today’s times the definition of love is changing. How relevant is ‘Sangmarmar’ in such times? Answer: I believe that every person has a desire to have someone who truly loves him, respects him and with whom he can share his thoughts. This need never ends. We all dream. If the dreams of love end, then neither ‘Sayara’, nor ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, nor ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ will work. People watch these movies again and again because they show the dream of love. Today there is more distrust and tension in the society, hence people create a circle of security around themselves. This is natural, but the basic feeling is the same, love and trust. Stories like these remind us that trust is important and love is still relevant. Question: Your simplicity and innocence remains intact even today. How do you isolate yourself from outside noise? Answer: This happens automatically with age. Time teaches that in the end only those things that are true matter, everything else is ego. I want to create more stories in the time I have, so that people can understand that relationships are the most important thing in life. Husband and wife do not talk for months, but no counselor will come and solve the problem. They will have to take the initiative themselves. If you have given birth to a child in this world, you do not have the right to fight. Responsibility and wisdom are necessary. Question: When action and large-scale films are in vogue today, isn’t it a risk to bring an emotional story like ‘Sangmarmar’? Answer: A good story makes its own place. Not every action film is successful and not every South Indian film works. Only what is good reaches the audience. I remember an incident. Actor Danny Saheb got B. R. Chopra ji had given a small scene in a film. He said that one scene is enough. That scene became recognizable to him. Therefore, one powerful moment is enough to leave a mark. My films ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’, ‘Vivah’ initially received skepticism from the commercial point of view, but with time they settled in the hearts of the audience. If even today people watch three-hour films with their families on Sundays, it means that there is still a demand for such stories. Question: How challenging was it to bring family and women-centric subjects on the OTT platform? Answer: It’s a struggle, because it’s often believed that male-centric topics are more popular. But Jio and Jio Hotstar showed full confidence. He said that you make only what you want to make. We never worked thinking about how many viewers we would get or what the numbers would be. When the idea of numbers dominates, faith wavers. ‘Sangmarmar’ is made with complete trust and devotion. Question: Music has a special place in your storytelling. How different will the music of ‘Sangmarmar’ be? Answer: This time we got complete freedom. There was no restriction as to which region would appeal or which sound would attract the youth. We have worked directly by connecting with the roots. There is a song of Odhani, sung by Harshdeep, which is completely full of folk flavour. This is a Holi song, which has the colors and language of the real Holi of North India. It has the simplicity and earthy fragrance of ‘Nadiya Ke Paar’. It is a perfect blend of love, color and culture, a presentation of pure Rajshri. Question: What would you like to tell your fans who are eagerly waiting for your films? Answer: I would just like to say that first watch ‘Sangmarmar’, then my film is also coming, there is time for that. The biggest thing is that if a youth shows this story to his grandparents and says that look there is a world like this, then that is enough for us.
