Veteran Bollywood actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha had approached the Bombay High Court to protect his personality rights. Today i.e. on 21st February 2026, after hearing his petition, the High Court has given a big decision in which it has been said that the actor’s famous dialogue ‘Khamosh’ is specially associated with his personality and it cannot be used without permission along with his name, voice or picture.

According to news agency ANI, in the High Court’s decision, Justice Sharmila Deshmukh said that this special dialogue of Shatrughan Sinha and his style of speaking dialogues has become an important part of his identity in the film and digital world. Therefore, unauthorized use by any person or platform, especially digital forms of their name, photograph, voice or face on social media, will not be acceptable to the Court.

In the petition, the actor said that for some time now, his name, image and dialogues like ‘Khamosh’ are being used without permission on many websites, social media and digital platforms. Also, many times their voice or face is being shown in real looking content through AI technology, which is also harming their reputation and credibility.

The High Court said in its interim order that all such content should be removed immediately and such content should not be uploaded in future also. The court considered it a violation of personality rights and said that such digital misuse threatens the actor’s privacy, respect and identity.

The Court further clarified that in today’s digital age when Artificial Intelligence (AI) and online platforms are growing rapidly, using someone’s name, voice, image or personality without their consent can cause harm to them. Therefore this step is necessary to protect personality rights.

The High Court also said that the concept of personality rights is now gaining increasing importance in India, as many times the digital forms of celebrities are misused to take commercial advantage of their names and identities. In such a situation, this order will act as a precedent and will provide guidance in similar cases in future.

The decision also said that if any platform or person does not comply with this order, legal action will be taken against it. The next hearing of Shatrughan Sinha has been scheduled on March 30, 2026, where a detailed decision on the matter can be finally taken.
