Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Friday that the aim of the Sangh is not to attain political power, but to organize the entire Hindu society and strengthen nation building through character building of individuals. He said this while interacting with about 950 players from India and abroad at Madhav Kunj in Shatabdi Nagar, Meerut.

Bhagwat clearly said that the work of the Sangh is not to make its name bigger, but to make the name of the country higher. He reiterated that the Sangh is not inspired by any power, competition or feeling of opposition, rather its basic objective is the organization and development of individuals of the entire Hindu society.

In about a 50-minute address, Bhagwat mentioned the almost 100 years of Sangh’s journey and called upon the youth to play an active role in nation building. According to the participants, he clearly said that the Sangh does not work in opposition or competition to any group, but is committed to strengthening social unity.

Speaking on the concept of India, Bhagwat said that the country cannot be limited only by geographical boundaries. The soul of India draws inspiration from the traditions of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Lord Buddha, Lord Mahavir, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Dayanand and Mahatma Gandhi.

He said that the word ‘Hindu’ symbolizes unity in diversity and not caste. The worship methods and gods and goddesses may be different, but the cultural basis is unity and harmony. Whenever social unity weakened, the nation had to face crises.

Referring to the four pillars of the society – values, Sanatan culture, religious sentiments and integrity, the Sangh chief said that the mission of the Sangh is the organization of the entire Hindu society through individual development. Volunteers are active in various social fields and consider national interest paramount.

Addressing the players, Bhagwat said that nation building is not the responsibility of any one organization but of the entire society. He described sports as a powerful medium to connect people. He fought in the first war of independence in 1857. Meerut Referring to the role of RSS, he said that this historical background later inspired Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar to establish the Sangh in 1925.

During this, many players including Arjun Award winning wrestler Alka Tomar appreciated the program. These days, Bhagwat is on a tour of Uttar Pradesh and is holding dialogue programs with various sections as part of the centenary year of the Sangh. His dialogue with intellectuals is proposed on Saturday.
