Report on Davos deals soon, 15 bills to be passed in House: CM | India News
Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday that the state government would submit a detailed report on the MoU signed worth Rs 30 lakh crore. World Economic Forum in Davos last month as well as the status of past agreements. Earlier in the day, the opposition demanded a white paper on such past deals. After the opposition once again boycotted the traditional tea party on the eve of the budget session, Fadnavis told reporters at the Rashtriya Guest House, Sahyadri that 13 bills would be tabled in the one-month session. He said two bills are pending from the previous session and all will be passed. He said, we will give enough time for discussion. He said the death of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar meant that it fell on him to present the budget. The opposition, who addressed the media separately, also cited the plane crash to question the government. “The government has only given a two-line explanation that no one can question the accident. Why not? Is it a conspiracy or an accident? It is being discussed across the country,” said Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar. The chief minister pointed to the absence of the NCP (SP) in the opposition’s press conference, a six-page letter to the opposition signed by a former MLA of Sharad Pawar’s group and the letter containing numerous grammatical errors which raised 18 issues. Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Yadav later said that the NCP (SP) leaders came late for the meeting due to some communication gap. “But we are all in this together as MVA,” he stressed. While Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray pointed to the vacant post of Leader of the Opposition in both houses and asked why the Mahayuti government was “fearing” for the post when it has a brute majority, Fadnavis said decisions should be taken by the Speaker of the Assembly and the Chairman of the Legislative Council. Congress MLC Sathej Patil has demanded the resignation of FDA minister Narhari Jirwal from the NCP in a bribery case involving an employee attached to his office in the ministry. The Chief Minister said that his name did not come up in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation. Acknowledging that the incident affected the image of the government, Fadnavis said, “We have zero tolerance for corruption and that is why you see so many cases being prosecuted. I have given clear instructions to the ACB that if any such act of corruption is found in its office, action must be taken.” Thackeray also took a dig at Mahayuti, saying there was a growing rivalry among its ministers, possibly referring to Fadnavis and deputy Eknath Shinde, who is the government’s “infra man”. He slammed the government for giving only Rs 5 lakh compensation to the families of the Mulund Metro concrete parapet accident victims. Alleging that the new Indo-US trade deal will “break the backs of farmers”, Wadettiwar pointed to the ongoing farmer suicide crisis in Maharashtra. Shinde urged the opposition to attend the budget session and not oppose the government by sitting on the steps of the Vidhan Bhavan. “The government will address all the issues raised by the opposition in the House,” he said.
