New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Wednesday’s complaint “Prime Minister Narendra Modi Compromised”, said he was barred from speaking during the vote of thanks as he wanted to raise critical issues with the people. This is the first time an opposition leader has been barred from addressing the Lok Sabha, Rahul claimed.Rahul, along with MP KC Venugopal, touched on several controversial issues that dominated the first half of the budget session and the opposition sent notices to remove the Speaker. Om Birla. In brief comments, Rahul said, “Last time (February 2-3), I raised the issue of Prime Ministerial compromise of former army chief MM Naravane, Epstein, Adani. I was silenced. These issues are fundamental to the people of India. Our Prime Minister has been compromised. Everyone knows the result of compromise.” He said he was prevented from speaking more than once.As BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad spoke critically about him in the Lok Sabha, Rahul intervened, alleging that BJP members were speaking “despicable” about him.Leading the Opposition’s charge, Venugopal took notice of the failure of Birla and the Prime Minister to come to the House to respond to the motion of thanks in the President’s address on February 4. He alleged that Modi did not want to come to the Lok Sabha and that the government had used the speaker to create an escape route – citing Birla’s statement that he had told the prime minister that “the Congress can stay away from seats and bad things can happen to women.” “It was the most irresponsible statement by Birla,” he said.Venugopal asked why Modi was not defending Birla when former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi spoke on the controversy over removal notices against Speakers.Slamming Prasad for mocking Rahul’s comments, Venugopal recalled Modi’s controversial comment during the Balakot plan that “clouds” would help Indian aircraft evade Pakistan’s radar. He alleges that when Chinese troops entered Indian territory, the prime minister’s response was “jo tyri samjho o karo”, as claimed in an unpublished book by Naravaan. He said Rahul was prevented from raising substantive issues, asking whether the US gave India 30 days to buy Russian oil as a “surrender of sovereignty” and whether the name of a cabinet minister in Epstein’s files should not be debated. Venugopal also alleged that Rahul’s mic was often switched off and said the LOPs were allowed to intervene freely earlier.
