New Delhi: An explosion outside the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Chandigarh on Wednesday evening caused panic in the area, with police confirming that an improvised explosive device appeared to have been thrown at the site. No casualties were reported.The blast took place outside the party office in Sector 37 around 5 pm. According to police officials, initial investigations revealed that a small, improvised device was thrown at the premises. Visuals released from the scene showed a suspect throwing a blue, grenade-like object before fleeing, moments later followed by an explosion.Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur said authorities received reports of an “explosion-like sound” near the BJP office soon after the incident. “Primarily, it appears to be a small crude-type device thrown,” he told reporters, adding that multiple teams had been deployed to investigate.Local crime branch and operation cell personnel reached the spot soon after the blast. A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory was also called to examine the site, while officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) joined the probe.A scooter parked outside the building was damaged in the blast, though no casualties were reported. BJP’s state media cell chief Vineet Joshi said the incident was deeply disturbing. “We can see some marks on the border wall. Only the police can give details,” he said.
