New Delhi: Supreme Court The CBI on Wednesday ordered a preliminary probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 20-year-old Dalit woman in MP’s Sagar district in 2024. It rejected the state’s plea that the case was politically motivated and the truth should come out.A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh said its conscience did not allow it to accept the plea of the state government and ordered a probe by the central agency. The court left it to the CBI to decide whether to register an FIR.The SC had issued the notice last year on a petition by the woman’s mother, who sought a CBI or SIT probe into the deaths of three family members. “We direct the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death,” the SC said.
