Manipuri language debut feature film ‘Boong’ has made India proud on the international stage. Congratulating the entire team of ‘Boong’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on social media platform

The film ‘Boong’ won in the Children and Family Film category at this year’s BAFTA Awards (British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards). It became the first Indian film to win the award in this category. The ceremony was held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, where the film’s team was present.
The film is directed by Lakshmipriya Devi and produced by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Vikesh Bhutani, Alan McAlex and Shujaat Saudagar. It was the only Indian film nominated at the ceremony and left behind international films like ‘Zootopia 2’, ‘Lilo & Stitch’ and ‘Arco’.

Director Lakshmipriya Devi said after the win that ‘Boong’ means little boy in Manipuri language. The story is about an innocent child who wants to find a special gift for his mother. He feels that bringing back his long-missing father would be the greatest gift he could give to his mother. During this search his life takes a new direction.
Producer Farhan Akhtar told that he has known Lakshmipriya for the last 20 years and this is his first directorial film, so this moment is even more special. He said that he felt it was right to support the story of a region of India where fewer films are produced.

The film premiered in the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024. After this it was also screened in major film festivals like Warsaw International Film Festival, MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, International Film Festival of India, Indian Film Festival, Melbourne.
This victory of ‘Boong’ is being considered a big milestone not only for Indian cinema but also for stories in regional languages.
